Decorating Pumpkins

Whew! I am so glad last week is over!  I had walking pneumonia and, honestly, felt like I was going to die.  After several days on the couch doing very little, I am finally starting to feel a little better.

During the end of my illness, I did manage decorating pumpkins for the house using washi tape and fabric.

I started with an orange foam pumpking and some black and white chevron washi tape.

I just used the washi tape to create vertical “stripes” on the pumpkin.  I brushed some mod podge over top of the tape to keep it from coming up as the month went along.

From there, I grabbed a roll of toilet paper and some yarn.  I wrapped the yarn around the toilet paper until it was completely covered.  Be careful not to wrap too tight or you will lose the shape really easily.

I’m still working on making it outside to find a stick for the top of it :)

The last one was the work of another roll of toilet paper and some fabric.  Good thing I keep plenty of toilet paper around the house for times like this ;)

The fabric is what we’ll be using to create throw pillows for the family room sofa.  I simply wrapped it around the toilet paper and tucked it into the top to create the stem.  The fabric stayed pretty loose so it is a messy-ish pumpkin but works.

The washi tape pumpkin has found a home in the hallway with another project I had been working on…my chiffon ribbon wreath for Halloween (tutorial tomorrow).

The other ones are hanging out on the mantle in the family room with my newly painted mirror.

Have you been decorating pumpkins recently?  What are some ways you decorate for Halloween?

  1. Im glad you’re on the mend! Those look great. I’ve been wanting to try the toilet paper one!

  2. I love all of those options. Love the wreath at the bottom especially because that is the same way to make tutus. The chevron looking tape is a simple yet creative way to pretty up a pumpkin.

  5. Love your washi tape pumpkin! Very eye catching! I initially thought your tp pumpkin was done at the blue yarn stage and just needed a stem. I liked just like that too, but of course your fabric brought it to a whole new level. I painted and antiqued a blue pumpkin if you want to check it out on my blog http://www.madedownsouth.blogspot.com Thanks for sharing!

  6. These are some great ideas! Thanks for linking up to tip-toe thru tuesday. I hope we see you again this week.

  7. This is a fantastic way to decorate pumpkins without carving them! I love that chevron pumpkin! I hope you will stop by and link this up to my Wickedly Creative Halloween Ideas Party if you haven’t already. Thank you so much!
