{Late} Spring / {Early} Summer Burlap Wreath

A few weeks ago, I made a spring ribbon wreath and proudly hung it on our front door.  Then, Mathlete came home and asked me why I had a Christmas wreath on our door.  Insert sigh followed by immediate crafting of new wreath which I will call my late spring/early summer wreath

Guest Room Upgrades: Candy for Dad

One of our recent projects has been making our extra bedrooms into a true guest rooms: places where guests can rest comfortably and really feel at home when visiting.  Along with changing the bedding, making headboards and adding in art and extra furniture, I wanted to make it easy for guests to find things they might be looking for {i.e. items they might have forgotten}.

It started with a little basket of items that guest might have forgotten similar to the way hotels put out small toiletries.

Big Girl Rooms: Two Mood Boards

Have you ever tried to get a 5 {almost 6} year old to make design decisions?  Take it from me…you’d have an easier time ripping a princess dress from her hands.

Um, how did she grow up so fast?

For H’s sixth birthday, we decided we would completely redecorate her room as part of her birthday present.  When we moved in, it was pretty hastily thrown together since
a) I was pregnant and also trying to do a nursery
b) she wasn’t really at an age where a big transition made sense.

Easy Decorating – Split Pea Spring Decor

We are in that time of year where it isn’t quite fully Spring {hello…snow predicted in two days!} but I still want to add little touches of Spring into our house to remind me what is near.  Since this is really transitional decor, I want this to be cheap and easy decorating.  And, it really doesn’t get much cheaper or easier than this!

Pinterest Challenge: Making a New Bed

Pinterest does a lot of things…the biggest is providing you with endless amounts of inspiration and ideas through your pins!

Thanks, in part to Pinterest, at our last dinner club, some of the ladies got to talking about upholstering headboards. Two, in particular, really wanted to do it for their rooms but just hadn’t made the time.

So, being the “do-er” that I like to think I am {yes, even that made ME laugh out loud, Mathlete…and others}, I scheduled a headboard day. The week before our “headboard day” came and there were lots of emails and texts.  We all wanted super simple rectangular boards similar to this one

On Saturday morning, Liz texted me to find out if I had really gone and bought the wood. {Sorry Liz…I fibbed just a bit. We were in the car on our way to get the wood but I was afraid you might back out if I told you that!} Mathlete and I hit up Lowes and bought the plywood for our projects and had it cut there. I also picked up a second staple gun and a ton of staples in different sizes.

Liz was given batting duty since neither Nari or I had actually gone and bought batting yet. {Maybe we were all subconsciously thinking the other was going to cancel?}

With all of our supplies purchased, we got to work making our 3 headboards {I will warn you…you will see two different fabrics in the how-to pictures because we were making multiple boards}!

Inspiration to Create my Own #MomCave

We spent most of last year working on finishing our basement.  Mathlete refers to it as his “man cave” since it is equipped with all the stuff most men love: leather recliners, a huge theater screen, a second tv and kick butt surround sound.

Now that his space is complete, I’m looking to create my own space; my #momcave.

We have a sitting room in our master bedroom that is currently unused {well, unless you count storing random stuff as being “used”}.

I think the space is perfect for my mom cave.  With all the windows, it gives me a ton of light which is great since I don’t need the darkness for a better tv view.
I recently did a little online and in-person shopping to try and get inspired for decorating this space.  I had seen a lot of commercials for La-Z-Boy furniture galleries and so I clicked over to check their website.  The online catalog is full of awesome ideas for creating beautiful rooms.

Doe a Deer

If you took a look at our Christmas home tour, you’ll notice a common thread through almost every room…let’s see if you can figure out by checking out our Christmas holiday table {or you know…reading the title}.

This year, I set the table using a combination of gold chargers and square and round plates.

In the center of the table is a green runner with an ivory and gold snowflake runner layered over top.

The vase in the middle is filled with little gold sticks, snow and my favorite glittered pinecones.

Gold candles and little reindeer flank the centerpiece on either side.

So, did you figure out what almost all the spaces in the house have in common? {I hope you guessed deer!}

What are you decorating with this year?

Christmas Home Tour

I love coming home to Christmas decorations.  There is something about them that just instantly lifts your spirits!  Had a bad day at work?  No worries, take a look a the sparkly lights on the tree.

Each of the rooms in our home have a slightly different “theme” going on but, for the most part, we try to keep them cohesive.  I think the one exception would be the kitchen which we keep ultra kid friendly since that is where the kids seem to spend the most time.

Want to start our tour there?

As always, H made a gingerbread house with her grandma and it is proudly on display in the kitchen.  We put it on the sleigh this year surrounded by Christmas trees.

Just above the that little scene is my super awesome skate {thanks mom!}, another tree and the candle holder I painted at the YHL Book signing and craft class.

You’ve seen my Christmas Mantle so we’ll focus on the little bookcases in the family room instead.  The bookcases are new to this room and I didn’t waste any time filling them up with candles, trees and deer!

In the hallway, you’ll find more snowflakes and our advent calendar!  The glittery painted snowflakes hang above the advent calendar and give off a little sparkle when the sun hits in the afternoon.

The foyer is more of the ivory, blue and gold found in other rooms of the house.  I even switched out the NOEL letters from last year to a blue paper that matches the paper of our Advent mittens.

Thanks for touring our home for Christmas!  We were so happy to have you along for the walk thru :)
